TONY COHEN FASHION SHOW SS17 AMSTERDAM
Restrained & Release, The feeling of being bounded or tied and then the exhilaration of being released and free was the theme that Tony Cohen used as inspiration for his SS17 collection. He shared his ideas by explaining the common feeling of being in a situation and can’t get out of. The Stress that comes along with those feelings and emotions and the euphoria that follows once your out. He wanted to use these emotions and feelings in his collection.
This inspiration was clear to see during his prêt-à-porter show at Amsterdam Fashion week. His one of a kind couture pieces had bondage worn over silky feminine silhouettes. Small details and hints of being tied up were carefully contrasted with soft designs. The contrast of wide and tight, hard and soft was exactly what Tony has envisioned for his collection, the feeling of being free contradicting the feeling of being confined.
The designs made a strong statement and stood out from his former collections.
“With bondage you can experiment very well. Just look at the enlarged designs with bondage additional accents. Some dresses are even completely constructed from bondage elements , like the corsets. Experimenting with shapes on the human body, that’s basically what we’ve done for these designs. “
